NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde -
Central Decontamination Unit (CDU) Training Tool Launched

July 2009

Art is an Option were asked to help produce publications to assist training staff within the unit in the key procedures involved in the cleaning of, and specific guidelines on, all complex tools. We felt however, due to the scale of the project that accessing information though hard copies would be time consuming. Following our presentation of a small computer based demo application we have subsequently developed a training tool whereby information on procedures and actual tools can be accessed quickly and easily by staff.

This new training aid contains images of the most frequently used and complex instrument sets. The application allows not only the identification of sets within their own specialist areas, but access to videos on how to disassemble and re-assemble the sets. The application allows each instrument associated within the sets to be viewed in closer detail. The roll out programme will see the expansion of the application to include more sets as they are required.

Initial Application Profile:

• 100 instrument sets
• 2116 images
• 181 videos
• Over 3 hours of video
• Five trainers demonstrating disassembly and re-assembly of instruments
• 'Day in the life of an instrument' through the CDU
• 11 Process walkthrough videos
